That is just one out of many captivating questions that were somewhat solved in an article by Tia Sang magazine, interviewing a GIZ’s team leader of 4E project. Looking at the recent scenario where the total installed capacity of solar power has been soaring from zero to over 10GW – ranking second in Southeast Asia, Ms. Vu Chi Mai* has discussed the following topics:

• The production price of solar power is as competitive as that of coal power but the transmission cost of the cheap solar energy is not cheap. Why?
• Is it true that Viet Nam’s power grid system has long been outdated and the upgrading is still too late?
• Should the country invest in smart grid yet or is the expansion on grids enough?
• Is it feasible for Viet Nam to rely mostly on renewable power to feed the growing demand of 10% each year?
• Has the Viet Nam government been favoring coal power over renewables? Is there a need to develop more coal power in the coming years?
